Workshop Presentation in an Academic Context


            

 

Workshop overview
Whether networking at a conference, presenting a poster or delivering a talk, being able to communicate clearly and confidently is a necessity for researchers. With a few fundamental strategies, presentation of complex data can be made simple, interesting and relevant.


In this workshop participants will learn how to create an audience tailored presentation, from presentation structure and storyline, to figure and slide design. Additionally, through the use of voice and body language exercises, students will improve their communication skills, enabling them to present with ease and confidence.
The following topics will be covered:

Presentation structure:
Figure construction and professional slide design

Body language:
How to be confident and persuasive

Voice training:
Projection and voice modulation

The nerves:
Strategies for managing stage fright

The question period:
Dealing with difficult situations


Details:
In this workshop, all participants will be filmed giving a short presentation. Individual presentation analysis will be performed and participants will receive their individually filmed presentations at the end of the workshop.
Due to the interactive nature of the workshop, a maximum of 12 participants are possible. The Presentation in an Academic Context workshop is offered as either a 1 or 2-day program (8 hours per day) that can be tailored to specific groups.

  • for PhD students of the Graduate Research Academy RNA Biology and the RIGeL Section CBB: 14.-22.03.2022
  • for all other PhD students: 18.-22.03.2022

The registration is on a first come, first served basis. The registration fee will be payed by the graduate school the PhD student belongs to. In case of cancellation of participation less than 7 days prior to the start of the course a cancellation fee in the amount of 100 % (297,50 EUR) of the registration fee will be charged unless a medical note is submitted!
